Dress Code to Perform

~What to wear for a Piano Performance~

As a piano performer, it is important to dress professionally with elegance; but also with comfort to perform.  Dress Codes are normally festive and respectful.

🎄 General Guidelines

  • Dress to honor the occasion: A recital is a performance, so attire should reflect the effort and formality of the event.
  • Avoid casual wear: No jeans, shorts, athletic wear, or sneakers.
  • Comfort matters: Choose outfits that allow ease of movement at the piano and help you feel confident.

👗 For Girls & Women

  • Dresses or skirts: Knee-length, medium, or floor-length dresses are ideal. A-line, fit-and-flare, or wrap styles work well.
  • Festive colors: based on season (spring, summer, autumn, winter or holiday).
  • Tights or leggings: Optional, but great for warmth and modesty.
  • Shoes: Dress shoes or flats with a small heel (no more than 2.5–3 inches). Avoid high heels or sandals. No tennis shoes.

👔 For Boys & Men

  • Dress pants with a button-down shirt: Add a sweater or blazer for extra polish.
  • Optional tie or bow tie: Especially nice for formal venues or evening recitals.
  • Dress shoes: Polished and comfortable. No sneakers or athletic shoes.

*For Field Trips if we are going to a concert to see a pianist perform, the same above applies as we respect the talent and hard work of the performer we are experiencing.*

I will send out information on these events above with specific guidelines for what is required for the event we are hosting or visiting.
